ICE Controlled America

Today our world is seemingly controlled by few very powerful men. I do not like to think it is so but evidence stacks against my wishes. Corruption, a hunger for wealth, and maybe a bit of cynicism is why it feels so oppressive. As a straight, white male who lives in suburban America I know I am not oppressed and I know that I still have a bright future despite who is in charge. That picture changes a bit when I state the fact that I am a Mexican living in the suburbs of Chicago. For those who do not know why that matters, let me explain. ICE or the Immigrations and Customs Enforcement is tasked with removing illegal immigrants from the United States. What I have witnessed since the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, is a society living in fear for what happens next.

Part of me hates it but as a strong believer of American democracy I know we brought it upon ourselves. Now this article is not here to debate Donald Trump overall as a president because that would be a long discussion. So to both sides of the spectrum, I hear you and I understand your frustrations with one another but read this with an open mind and do your own research if you are compelled to do so. This is not an argument, this is my analysis of modern day America controlled by ICE.

I think violence may be too obvious of a word for what I have seen. Nazi Germany seems too harsh because yes despite losing some, the American people still have rights. The best way I can find to explain this era of the United States is this: decades of ineffective change lead to drastic measures combined with misinformation and corruption, this is met with resistance that seems to push for anything but real action.

I like peaceful protests but that is not possible right now. I do not mean that the protesters need to turn violent. I mean stop confronting the people that will shoot you and pepper spray you and will kill you. So in other words, death is the ultimate controller of society right now. Fear of death or the power to kill someone is what everyone is focused on now.

So what is the solution? I hate to say it but I do not think that protests will work, in fact I believe protests will only bring more death. The change needs to come from the government. Will that happen? Honestly I have no clue and I really do wish I had one.

For this first time in my life I do not know what will happen next. Politics to me has always seemed kind of predictable, but not anymore. I have no idea what the next course of action is, or if there even is another course of action. Does someone from within the government start the change or do we just have to lie in the bed we made? We need to lie in the bed we made and stop complaining so much.

I am not a conservative and I am not a liberal. But all conservatives do your research and check your values as a conservative versus those of this administration.

To the liberals, stop complaining and do something worth anything. For years Democrats have played the victim and it does not work. ICE officers are doing their jobs and you may not like how they are doing it and I agree some of it is too violent and is out of control. At the same time stay out of the way because standing in front of them only invites violence.

If you have an issue with policy or direction, work on something meaningful for change. Being a victim shows weakness. Please campaign, work to make your community better, vote.

To put this down simply. I hate the violence and division this country faces. I blame both sides of the spectrum. Republicans are too harsh and Democrats are too soft. Fight for your beliefs but do it the right way. Have real conversations and share your emotions. Stop fighting violence with violence. Stop being so damn sensitive to competition. Stop killing innocent people for their beliefs. Be a real advocate for change, not a victim. Make your voice heard but in the right way. Standing in the street is not the right way. Firing hate speech online is not the right way either. Get the government’s attention by changing the status quo and do things that bring forth change.
